What is Baseline Concussion Testing?
Baseline testing measures an athlete’s normal brain function before the season begins. It’s a comprehensive evaluation that includes:
- Symptom tracking
- Balance
- Reaction time
- Impulse control
- Memory
If a player sustains a head knock, these results give medical professionals an accurate benchmark to compare against – a measure of the ‘normal’ brain function for each individual player. This makes it easier to detect minor changes and guide recovery safely. We cannot rely on symptoms alone.

What does Baseline Testing involve?
- 30 minute (per team) assessment under physiotherapist supervision
- 45 minute concussion education session
- Testing is using CCMI app on player’s phone
- Training of club trainers and physiotherapists for game day testing
- Results are stored confidentially and available if a concussion occurs
- Trained club physiotherapists and trainers can use the app for game day assessment following head knocks
- Connection with concussion physiotherapists for any follow up required
- Test results can be used as a guide for returning to play
- Testing can also be completed individually for players at our clinics
